Two Scenic Wisconsin Drives You Won't Want to Miss This Fall

The Fall season encompasses some of the most beautiful months of the year, and what better way to embrace autumn’s crisp air and bright colors than to take a scenic road trip across the charming Wisconsin landscapes? Below, we present two striking routes for this must-do adventure to help you get the most out of the natural beauty and unique experiences that Wisconsin has to offer before the winter and holiday season kick in.

Lake Geneva Scenic Drive

Start off your road trip on Snake Road, at the point of intersection with WIS 50 in the city of Lake Geneva. This historical backroad loops around the countryside, offering a plethora of breathtaking views and hidden gems. Lake Geneva has long been known as one of the Midwest’s most beautiful and relaxing getaway locales. The Rustic Road 29 (R-29) passes through plenty of wildlife and nature to observe. You can witness the array of fall colors around Lake Geneva, which entails a gorgeous, quiet lakeside, beautiful one-of-a-kind homes, and glorious, picturesque landscaping. Get out and stretch your legs for a bit by taking a stroll in the Big Foot Beach State Park, which is particularly beautiful in Autumn and the perfect moment to take a break for some fresh air. Lake Geneva is welcome to all; it contains paved pathways that are easy to walk on for people of all ages and contains many different paths with stunning views from which to choose. If you’re up to it, you can trek the 27-mile hike around the shoreline, or you can walk the shorter paths for a quick view. Either way, you can’t go wrong with Rustic Road 29.

Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive

Keep driving past Lake Geneva, and you will hit Hartford, Wisconsin — nestled in the rolling hills of the scenic Kettle Moraine. This 115-mile route connects the southern and northern units from Elkhart Lake in the north to Whitewater Lake in the south using various local roads and county highways that offer panoramic, breathtaking views. There are numerous historical sites to visit and places to picnic, hike, camp, bike, and fish. If you have kiddos on board, they will enjoy historic landmarks such as Old World Wisconsin, an outdoor museum of rural life, and Wade House, an 1860’s stagecoach inn which is one of Wisconsin’s 12 official historical sites. Along the route are many spots to stop and enjoy the incredible, natural habitat of Wisconsin. This scenic highway route can be enjoyed over the time span of a day or possibly two, seeing the best of natural features in the Kettle Moraine region. Furthermore, it is easily accessible to many developed state parks and forests that are truly sights to see.
